Getting ready

Red door is getting ready for Valentine's Day! I dug out some of our Valentine decorations and put them up around the house. I figured there are only 14 days to enjoy them so they could go out a little early!

This was supposed to go in the bathroom but it looked so nice in the kitchen I decided it should stay there!

This one actually made it to the back bathroom!

The dining room table needs a little work. I took down the Christmas decorations (which had been up since the weekend after Thanksgiving but I loved them so much I didn't want to put them away!) and now it looks a little plain. I got some new napkins to put on the placemats but I couldn't decided which color looked the best. I will have to ask Richie for his opinion, which will probably be "they all look fine".

I thought about maybe putting something in the red vase. I tried sparkly Christmas ornaments but they didn't look right. Maybe a white pillar candle will have to do. Any suggestions???

EDITED POST

I tried the bubble basket but then you couldn't see the bottom of the vase which is really cool. Went to Kohl's and got some red and tan napkins (those helped a lot!) and put a white pillar in the red thing. I think tomorrow I will try to find some fake ivy or something to go at the bottom. Thanks for the help mama!

Cake cookies

I have been wanting to make cake for a while now. We still have Christmas cookies in the freezer but I love (really, really, really love) cake and have been hungry for it lately. Two weeks ago we picked up some cake and frosting at Walmart and I still hadn't bothered to make a cake.

Today I had to run to Buehler's and pick up some hamburger (they are having a really good sale... $1.50 off with your advantage card) and while I was there remembered what Tara said about the cake cookie recipe. When we were at her house a few weeks ago she had made some of these cookies. I asked her for the recipe and she said it was on the side of the Pillsbury Funfetti box. I picked up a box, not planning to use it but just to get the recipe from the box. (I will put the recipe at the end of the post and save you the $1.33 it cost me)

It turned out to be super easy. So super easy that I can do it all by myself and have them turn out yummy.

While I worked in the kitchen Bevo waited patiently for me to drop something.

Unfortunately for him nothing hit the floor :o)

Mmmmmmmm! White cake cookies with lemon frosting. Yum-o

Pilsbury funfetti cookies

1 box cake mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup oil

Preheat oven to 375. Mix ingredients with a spoon until moist. Roll batter into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Use the bottom of a glass dipped in flour to press balls to 1/4 inch thickness. Bake 6-8 min (I baked mine 7 min) until edges are golden brown. Cool 1 min. on cookie sheet. Move to cooling rack.

Day 2 with nothing better to do!

Looks like I still listen to my mama. The conversation went a little like this:

Me: I'm bored.

Mama: Clean that scrap room. You know it needs done.

Me: I don't have any place to put all the junk

Mama: Just organize the boxes. Put them by the wall instead in the middle of the room.

Me: I don't wanna clean it.

Mama: Then stop complaining.

Rather than lose my ability to complain I thought I would get my butt in gear. I wish I had a before picture to show how messy it was. Just think boxes and crap everywhere and a little path to the closet door. I can't believe how much space such a little amount of stuff took up!

Now the challenge is to keep it more or less in this state until we get something to put all the junk in. It's not perfect but it's way better than it was.

This is another thing I found while wasting time this morning on the computer. It seems that this is what Volkswagen thinks an addition to the Garrott clan would look like.

I would hope that in real life our child would look less Asian.

Is that what I think it is?

Yes that is yellow snow. Why would I post a picture of yellow snow? Well actually there are two interesting questions to be asked about this picture of yellow snow. First, what is the location of said snow? Second, when was this picture of yellow snow taken?

Interestingly enough I have answers to both of those burning questions.

It seems that Cyan is no longer the only dog who is so lazy they don’t even bother to walk off the deck to go to the bathroom when there is snow on the ground. Bevo has followed in her… well, lack of footsteps. I let him out the door this morning to watch him not bother to walk more than three feet away and squat right there on the deck. Well I suppose if there’s white stuff all over the grass than anything underneath said white stuff must be grass. Right?!?!? I just hope he doesn’t start to confuse the white carpet with snow.

The time stamp on that image is 6:08 am. Why in the world am I taking pictures of yellow snow at six in the morning? It seems that despite the best intentions of the district I work for I am clueless when it comes to being prepared. We have a call system that automatically calls each person on the phone tree when there are schedule changes due to weather (or anything else for that matter).

Me, being the genus that I am gave them my cell number. Actually that has nothing to do with me being a genius and more with me not knowing what my home phone number is. Yeah, I will admit it. I don’t know my home phone number. So of course with the weather we are having they activated the call system. They were even sweet enough to call the two-hour-delay last night so we could sleep in a little and didn’t have to play the waiting game waiting for a call. Stupid me however left their cell phone on vibrate down in the living room. So of course I got up early and started my daily routine before I noticed that I had a voice mail. Good morning Mr. Hamm! So instead of getting ready for work what was I doing?!?!? Taking pictures of the snow on our deck of course! In my bathrobe none the less :o)

Not Me Monday

These things would never happen... not to us

I was not woken up this morning at 5:30 by someone with his barky pants on. This is not the only day this week that I could have slept until 6:45.

I did not watch as my husband stood in the living room and stretched the cord of the towel dryer to see if it reached above his head and was really 7 feet long.

Mr. Barky pants is not sleeping on my lap as I write this. It seems like 5:30 was early for him too.

I am also not praying for a "snow day" this week. Nope not me!

Week in Review

January 5-9

Monday: After 2 weeks in the closet I had to drag my backpack out and get back to business as usual.

Tuesday: A great day to be a Texas fan! Fiesta Bowl Champs! I made it to halftime of the game the night before but had to catch the highlights on ESPN. We would have been happy regardless of who won :o)

Wednesday: Hot shower + warm towels = perfection. The towel warmer Richie found online made it to red door. After some electrical work in the bathroom we can look forward to toasty towels for the rest of the winter.

Thursday: I started reading this book right after Christmas. So good!!! I knew it would be but it was so good I wanted to take it everywhere. I couldn't wait to find out what happened. The plot pretty much was: Death row inmate wants to give his heart to the sister of his victims. Lots of biblical parallels, lots to think about.

Friday: I wore my new sweater to work. Thanks mama!

Saturday: Running errands in Dover. Gotta love the Scrappers Attic. I finally found some cute letters without having to drive to Fairlawn. Hooray!

Cocoa Loco

My blog is so cocoa-licious for today!

I'm not sure why but lately I have been drinking hot cocoa like crazy! Maybe I just got tired of coffee all the time but I am slowly and surely becoming a cocoa queen. Usually we just get the cheap Wal-mart kind (can't beat it for $.97 a box) but when we went to Buehler's they had some gourmet kinds.

This one is the best! Even Richie agrees :o)

Mmmmmm.... yum-o

Happy Thursday!

love,
Bevo
